EL PEDALERO – LIFE, ON A BIKE, IN LATIN AMERICA

Welcome to El Pedalero!

El Pedalero is dedicated to exploring the wonder and mystery of travelling by bicycle in Latin America – the world’s greatest adventure travel destination!

Expect to find frank discussions on all kinds of topics: favourite roads, favourite ruins, places to camp, dealing with dogs, hassle-free border crossings, buying machetes, epic climbs, epic descents, and anything else I can think of, as I reflect on two decades of touring through every country in Latin America.  Also, expect to find plenty of touring advice, including relevant Spanish vocabulary lists sorted by theme.

Join the conversation!  If you’re an experienced pedalero or pedalera please contribute to the discussion by commenting on the posts.  I want to hear about your favourite routes, roads, tips, and experiences related to each.  And I want to hear from future pedaleros too!  If you’re planning to tour this amazing continent, I look forward to hearing your questions, your concerns, and what things you’re most looking forward to.

I should also mention here that El Pedalero is not a travelogue.  The content is based on many tours over many years, not from one trip.  Don’t expect to find reviews of hotels, hostels, camping gear, bike frames, travel insurance companies, etc.; there’s already a glut of this kind of constantly-changing information out there.  And, although I’ve toured other continents and someday I’d love to cycle the entire world like Heinz Stücke, this site is concerned only with the unique situation of bicycle travel in Latin America.

¡Bienvenidos! Bem-vindos! Welcome!
